Los Statos Deluxe Connecticut Toro
The Los Statos Deluxe is a cigar brand under the STG (Scandinavian Tobacco
Group) which was revamped in 2022 by Matt Booth and Justin Andrews with new blends and artwork.

Todays cigar is going to be the Connecticut version, this cigar comes in at:
Length: 6”
Ring Gauge: 52
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut
Binder: Nicaraguan Habano
Filler: Esteli, Jalapa and Pennsylvania
Strength: Light - Medium

History
Los Statos Deluxe was a discontinued Cuban brand that was originally established around the 1940s but later removed from the Habanos portfolio around 2005. While the brand started out with hand rolled cigars they were later replaced with machine made versions in the 1980s.
The revitalised version of this brand was reintroduced in 2022 by Matt Booth
bringing new life and new blends to the brand along with a new modern artwork
style. Another change that was made was the flavour profile of these cigars now being a more light to medium bodied cigars where the original Cuban brand were more medium to full.
My Review
I want to start by saying that I have seen these cigars floating around some of the UK cigar groups for quite sometime and I have been very interested to get my hands on these and trying them. So when I had the opportunity to get some I
knew I had to try them straight away.
The First Third:

When I first lit this cigar up I had a wonderful blast of cedar, creamy vanilla and a
slight baking spice. The flavours of this cigar would continue throughout the first
third.
When I was familiar with the flavours I was getting I decided to pour my drink of
choice for this pairing a Woodford Reserve bourbon. Knowing the Los Statos
Deluxe is a Connecticut with light strength and creamy flavours having a bourbon
with sweetness and little spice would be a complimentary pairing and it was.
Woodford Reserve has a lovely toffee/caramel flavour with some lovely fruit and
oaky notes and a subtle spicy makes it a perfect pairing for the flavours of the Los Statos Deluxe.

Second Third:
The second third of the cigar continued with the flavour notes of the first however they were more pronounced with a bit more of a nutty and pepper note that was enhanced with the bourbon giving a caramel popcorn note on the palate which was very enjoyable.
Final Third:
The final third continued just like the second third however those creamy, cedar,
vanilla, nutty notes were much stronger and pronounced, which when paired with the final few sips of the Woodford Reserve produced a lovely sweet and savoury flavour that rounded off this smoking experience perfectly.
There are a few things I have yet to touch on with this pairing review and the is the construction of the beautiful cigar, the burn and draw was consistent throughout which is one of the driving factors of this experience in my opinion as nothing can ruin a cigar quicker than and bad burn and draw.
Also another I have not mentioned is the timing of this review, this cigar was
smoked during the afternoon and paired with a sweet bourbon if you are going to
smoke this in the afternoon one evening be mindful of the timing as pairing this
cigar with a stronger whisky and too heavy of a meal can cause the flavours to be lost within everything else leaving this cigar to fall flat.
Other than that I hope you enjoy this one.
I am going to give this pairing of the Los Statos Deluxe Connecticut and Woodford Reserve a 8.5 out of 10 I highly recommend you trying this one if you have not.

A lifelong cigar enthusiast, I enjoy discovering new blends and pairings one smoke at a time. With years of experience in both cigars and pipe tobacco, I aim to share honest reviews and help others appreciate the finer details of the smoking experience.
